Today is Monday, the most dreaded day of the week for the majority of us.
A day when you proclaim how insufficiently short the weekend was.
A day when the reality of your 9 to 5 sinks in and “real-life” responsibility consumes you.
A day where suddenly you have to seemingly put the breaks on being your true self.
I hate this mindset. I think it is utter bullsh*t.
Don’t get me wrong. I feel a bit down and sluggish on Mondays. I don’t particularly look forward to them. But I embrace them with the same energy as I do a Saturday or Sunday. Why?
My Monday motivation is simple: consistency
Consistency in my drive to pursue my passions both inside and outside of my 9 to 5.
My 9 to 5 self and my true self are not mutually exclusive and I think this the main reason that I find myself able to avoid the usual negative Monday dilemma.
Ask yourself this.
Do you find yourself only able to be yourself outside of work?
Are you only able to glimpse and chase your passion after work?
Do you feel creatively stifled during your 9 to 5?
Do you find yourself always saying “I wish I could…”?
Do you hate your job?
If you said yes to more than one of the above, I hate to break it you to, but:
Your sh*t is broken!
Now, to be clear, I didn’t start PRSUIT to encourage people to quit their jobs when they are feeling frustrated or a lack of passion in their life. Not at all!
I started PRSUIT to encourage people to be inspired to be themselves every hour of the day and to consistently be driven to dream, do and experience more. Crushing Monday is the first step towards this and the way to make this happen, in my experience, is consistency. But this is not the case for most people.
I find that a lot of my peers approach their jobs and their passions from two entirely different directions. They are stuck in a line of thinking that lends itself to complaining. This is the case because they are not consistent in their drive for passion. On Monday morning, they call it quits until the weekend. On Friday, they call it quits until Monday. Why not find a way to combine the two?
Easier said than done, I know, but still, it’s all about attitude.
Ughhh, it’s Monday.
Ask yourself this question:
What if this was the last Monday of your life?
Would you continue complaining? Would you embrace the path you are currently on?
You have to find a way to get yourself pumped up. I approach my day job, my side hustle, my personal development with a sense of urgency and consistency that makes me excited to tackle the day.
It is this consistency in knowing that I am empowered 24 hours a day to be myself, pursue my passion and succeed.
This consistency in thinking gives me the confidence to know that I am without a doubt going to make Monday morning my b*tch.
If you are not completely devoted to find your unique path and the success that goes along with it, you will find yourself falling victim to the case of the Mondays (I hear that’s going around).
I leave you with this example from my life.
Along with my partner in crime Matt from HDFmagazine.com, I started The Hustle Sold Separately Podcast in October 2015. We uploaded our first episode on October 23rd and since then have uploaded 40 additional episodes. Every Friday since that first day, I have sat down with Matt to interview and chat with the most badass creators and doers on the planet. 41 episodes without missing a beat. That is consistency. Starting a podcast and gaining listeners is no easy feat and in the beginning we had very few.
Fast forward to last week when we were featured in Entrepreneur Magazine online on their list of “The Top 7 Podcasts that Inspire Grit, Grind and Hustle” and most recently yesterday when Fox News also featured our podcast, I can definitely say that consistency is a major to success.
Consistency in attitude and execution trumps any amount of planning and complaining. If you approach each Monday and every following day with the same dedication to consistency that Matt and I do have with our podcast, I am confident in saying that you will see results in your life.
So, keep your head up, chase what inspires you every day and make Monday your b*tch.
