My name is Kaz and I am the founder of Sol Vibes.
This is my story….my road to success.
Background on me. Why I am launching a social good company.
I may not know you, but I’m guessing that because you read this blog, you’re the kind of person who is passionate about life, self improvement, and just living the best life you can. Well that’s great, and that means we’ve already got something in common.
I am 25 and live in Chicago and have always been interested in self improvement and optimizing my life. However, I came to a plateau when I moved to Chicago (as I mentioned in a previous post on life auditing) and knew I needed to reach for something more. I graduated college, moved to the big city, and got a good job but found myself feeling like something was still missing something.
Since then, I indulged in all the information I could find from self help books to finance and entrepreneurship books and blogs. I came to see a whole new world unravel in front of me with immense potential and possibilities that was not even a consideration of mine before. Essentially, there are endless ways to create a life for yourself that resonates with what you actually want to do. I was slowly starting to break the mold of thinking I had to live up to the normal expectation in modern society.
I decided it was time for me to get to work and start building something that was bigger than myself. I felt like I needed to do my part in this world we all share, and find a way to make an impact.
In order to do this, I started Sol Vibes. I began Sol Vibes as an artistic apparel company with a goal to spread good vibes and offer clothing for people with a passion for living. After a lot of time and learning, I launched solvibes.com, which was about three weeks ago.
Since that time, I have learned a lot and have decided to pivot to a slightly different approach. I will be taking this amazing opportunity provided by PRSUIT to share with you my journey completely and transparently as I work towards my two month goals which I will be setting at the end of this article.
I will be applying theories of entrepreneurship and documenting my successes and failures with them. One model I will be following right off the bat will be “The Lean Startup” by Eric Reis as I shift from being solely an e-commerce brand to a content first brand. More on that in a minute.
I plan to work hard to reach my goals over a two month time period with hopes that this unique view of my journey will be helpful for anyone in a similar situation and will inspire people to take action.
Why Sol Vibes will be doing social good.
The best way I can explain the central idea of Sol Vibes is through an alternative understanding of the “Tragedy of the Commons.” Essentially this theory boils down to the inherent power of actions by people that may seem negligible and unchanging to the world on a personal level, but if everyone did the same action, there would be a huge cumulative effect. The original theory was born out of an environmental theory of the eventual ruin of the earth.
I decided to take the optimistic route – harness the power of the commons and channel it to make a change for good in the world. If everyone took a bit of an action to do a little good everyday, then inevitably, there would be a cumulative positive change in the world
Sol Vibes has always been about bringing some amount of positive change in the world, but at this moment, Sol Vibes is shifting to be more actionable in order to address real issues and have a bigger affect on helping resolve them.
In order to do this, Sol Vibes will first give people an opportunity to better understand and relate to an issue through a story that features someone who is or was directly affected by an issue. Along with the feature, a product directly inspired by the story will be offered with a portion of sales being donated to the cause allowing people to directly contribute to the cause.
It is all too easy to just say ‘Good Vibes’ on a shirt, Sol Vibes is about making and sharing good vibes with the world. Every action has an effect, no matter how small it may seem, and cumulatively, real change can happen. Let’s do life better.
My two month goal with social entrepreneurship.
Starting today, I am going to be working towards a few goals to grow Sol Vibes over the next 2 months while documenting that journey.
Goal 1: I will gain 2,000 email subscribers.
Goal 2: Have at least 6 products that will be available for sale.
Goal 3: Make $2,000 in revenue.
I want to say thank you for taking the time to read this post and I hope you can follow me on my journey to build and make change. I will be making some big changes between now and the next update post on my journey here on PRSUIT, but I know they will be well worth it.
I would love to hear any feedback you may have on the company, direction, or ideas in general. Please reach out to me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
